Virtually all the items that I have obtained from others have come from a small and close group of collectors who grew up together as fellow collectors in New York. They include: Pete Connolly, who has collected for about forty years. Pete has met most of the major rock acts over that time. Some photos of him with stars are on my provenance page. Because of both his knowledge and experience in obtaining autographs firsthand, and his knowledge of the provenance of most of these items, I rely on Pete as my co-authenticator.
John Morgan grew up in Soho, New York, and started collecting the signatures of rock acts in the 1960's, as they visited New York. He got to know roadies, managers and bodyguards working with the stars, and obtained most of the signed classic rock LPs I offer here.
Stanley Kolowski started collecting in the 1940's, going to the movie houses of New York and New Jersey, getting the signatures of his film heroes such as Abbott and Costello and the Three Stooges as they made public appearances. With his wife Stephanie, they started collecting big-time in the 1950's, and would paste the file cards they got signed in a scrapbook, which they continued to add to for decades. Almost all of the signed cuts on my site came from their scrapbook.
Cicely Steinberg grew up on Broadway in New York from the 1950's on. She would obtain records at the local Colony Records store on Broadway, and would frequent the nearby theater district, obtaining the signatures of the stars she would meet there. The non-rock albums I am offering, signed by various film and TV stars, were gotten by Cicely. She also got some of the early rock and roll autographs I have also, attending such early rock TV shows as "Dick Cark's Saturday Night Beechnut Show", filmed at the Little Theater in New York.
Some of the other items came from other insiders and those who worked close with the stars, including booking agent Al Reuter, who had worked with Bill Graham and Don Kirshner, and road manager Neville Chester, who worked with many of the major rock acts from the 1960's on, such as Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, the Who and Marvin Gaye.
I issue, at the buyer's request, a certificate of authenticity, bearing Pete's name as well as mine. I include a photo of the item and all pertinent signing details of the item, and notarize the certificate at my signing. I always fully guarantee the authenticity of anything I offer. I will not take the opinions of a third party authenticator as a sole reason to return an item, but will openly consider any such requests on an individual basis with compelling circumstances. As someone who grew up on classic rock music, I am thrilled to have been in possession of these relics of rock history, and have been able to hold these items in my hand. I hope they all find homes where they are appreciated. I will always be happy to tell you anything else I can about any of these items, or send further photos or scans.
