Buddy Holly Ritchie Valens Big Bopper Eddie Cochran Dion DiMucci Waylon Jennings Signed "Winter Dance Party" Autograph Collection
Product Description
Six lined 3x5 file cards signed in pencil by artists associated with the fateful "Winter Dance Party" tour. Eddie Cochran (inscribed "Love to Helen" with a few x's), the Big Bopper (adding "Hello Helen"), Buddy Holly (signed on the unlined side, and trimmed to about 2 1/2" x 5"), Ritchie Valens (signed on the unlined side, adding "Love to Helen" and trimmed to about 2 1/2" x 5"), Waylon Jennings, and Dion DiMucci. Click on the inset photo to see the second group of three autographs. Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper perished on the small plane they chartered to fly them to the next show on their tour. Waylon Jennings, playing in Holly's band at the time, gave up his seat on the plane to the Big Bopper, who was running a fever. Dion was on the tour, but not traveling on that flight. Eddie Cochran, who contemplated going on the tour, decided against it, but perished in an auto accident in England a little more than a year later. Since the signatures were obtained by the same person at around the same time, I decided to include Cochran's autograph in this bunch. Helen, an early collector of rock and roll autographs, often attended filmings of Dick Clark's Saturday Night Beechnut Show, filmed at the Little Theater in New York. Most of these signatures were obtained there. Eddie Cochran was obtained August 30 1958, the Big Bopper acquired September 20 1958, Buddy Holly acquired October 25 1958, Ritchie Valens acquired December 27 1958, Dion was acquired October 4 1958. The cards have adhesive residue on the reverse from being kept in a scrapbook for decades, which has caused a discoloring to show through on some of them. A fantastic collection of rare early rock pioneers.
